Relaxation Breathing: Teaching Your Family Coping Skills

Relaxation breathing helps the brain think clearer, body calm down and us feel better. Teach relaxation breathing in these fun ways.

1. Watch the Sesame Street Belly Breathing video.

2. Make or buy a pinwheel and practice blowing on it slow and fast. Have them notice how their body feels when breathing differently. In the end, teach that inhaling slowly through the nose and then slowly & fully exhaling (making the pinwheel turn slowly) helps the body calm faster.

3. Breath in slowly while raising arms (or choose a toy to make raise in the hands) upward high above the head. Exhale out the mouth slowly as the arms or toy is lowered. Repeat and notice how the body feels.
